By Ashish Kumar Mandal,Kathmandu, Nepal : Prime Minister Balendra Shah has highly praised the Nepali security personnel who have been working around the clock in response to the recent devastating floods and landslides across the country. In a message shared on social media, Shah praised their courage, dedication and sacrifice, saying they continued to perform their duties despite difficult terrain, severe weather and extremely challenging conditions.
Shah highlighted the courageous rescue operation at the Central Prison in Bidur, Nuwakot, as an example of the determination shown by security personnel. When flooding in the Bhotekoshi River on Bhadra 10 inundated the prison area, 52 security personnel remained calm and successfully moved 923 inmates to a safe location. During the operation, they also recaptured 50 inmates who attempted to escape and helped save the lives of local residents. Despite their barracks and offices being buried in mud, the security personnel continued carrying out their responsibilities without stepping back from their duty, Shah said.
According to the Prime Minister, the joint efforts of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have so far resulted in the rescue of 13,391 people. The Nepali Army has mobilized 9,287 personnel for search and rescue operations, Bailey bridge construction and technical assistance, while 7,975 Nepal Police personnel have been involved in search and rescue, relief distribution, body management and maintaining law and order. Likewise, 4,202 Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed with divers, rope-rescue teams, drone squads and disaster-response bases to carry out high-risk rescue operations.
Shah also paid emotional tribute to security personnel who continued their rescue work while facing the pain of having their own colleagues missing. At a time when 45 soldiers, 25 police personnel and 12 Armed Police personnel were reported missing, other security personnel put aside their personal grief and continued working to protect and rescue civilians. “Because of your sacrifice and dedication, millions of people have been able to feel safe during this crisis,” Shah said.
Concluding his message, Prime Minister Shah pledged that the government would make no compromise on the service, security and welfare of security personnel working during disasters. He also expressed gratitude to the families who continue to stand behind the security personnel serving on the front lines during such difficult circumstances.
