By Ashish Kumar Mandal , Kathmandu,Nepal : Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) has released a detailed update via social media regarding the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River of Rasuwa, outlining the government’s ongoing search, rescue, and relief operations. Addressing the nation during this tragic crisis over the past five days, he stated that the government has deployed its entire machinery on a war footing to save lives and protect citizens.

The Prime Minister shared that despite adverse weather and challenging terrain, 9,435 people have been successfully rescued so far via air and land routes. A total of 394 helicopter flights have been conducted for relief and rescue efforts, with 20,618 security personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force deployed on the ground.

Rescue Operations Ongoing in Tunnels and Hydropower Projects
Rescue teams, in coordination with international experts, are actively working to locate missing individuals trapped in tunnels and affected hydropower sites. Joint teams comprising the Nepali Army, along with Chinese, Korean, and Indian specialists, are conducting rescue operations using blasting, aerial reconnaissance, and dewatering pumps across Upper Trishuli-1, 3 ‘A’, 3 ‘B’, Chilime, Langtang, and Mailung Khola projects.

Medical Care, Financial Relief, and Management
Out of 267 injured individuals rescued, 156 have been discharged after treatment, while the rest are receiving medical care in Kathmandu and local facilities.

Relief Fund Accumulation: Over NPR 5.24 Billion and USD 2.1 Million have been deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Temporary Shelters: 26 relief shelters and distribution centers are operational in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, providing temporary aid to 3,454 people on Sunday alone.

International Assistance: Financial aid, modular steel bridges, and humanitarian supplies are being received from the World Bank (USD 167 million concessional loan), ADB, the US, Australia, India, China, and Switzerland.

Communication, Infrastructure, and Body Management
Most damaged telecom towers are being restored, and 20 satellite phones have been deployed to the affected regions. Efforts are underway to reopen alternative routes disrupted by fresh landslides.

Prime Minister Shah noted that 781 bodies have been recovered so far. Unidentified bodies are being managed per government directives, with DNA samples and identification records safely preserved. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stand as a guardian for all affected citizens until full relief, reconstruction, and rehabilitation are completed.
