Janakpur : Madhesh Province’s Minister for Home Affairs, Communications and Law, Fakira Mahato, has personally taken an active role in clearing encroachments from the sidewalks of Janakpurdham.

In coordination with Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhanusha Police, and the District Traffic Police Office, Minister Mahato has been on the streets since early Wednesday morning, leading a अभियान to clear footpaths.

With the goal of developing Janakpurdham as a tourist city, the provincial government has been advancing cleanliness and beautification programs. Under this initiative, the first phase focuses on clearing areas around temples and religious sites. Minister Mahato’s team has requested those conducting business on footpaths to relocate elsewhere.

Minister Mahato emphasized that change cannot be achieved through individual effort alone and urged local residents, business owners, and civil society to cooperate. He stated that on the first day, he humbly appealed to traders, even requesting support with folded hands, to help make Janakpurdham clean, organized, and well-managed.

He also warned that from the following day, anyone found continuing business activities by encroaching on footpaths would have their goods confiscated.

Meanwhile, Surendra Bhandari, President of the Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, informed that traders currently operating on footpaths have been temporarily provided space at Barahbigha Ground. He added that they can run their carts and stalls there until further decisions are made, after which an alternative arrangement will be provided based on broader consensus.
