Police use water canons and baton at protest against government’s handling the pandemic

Demonstrators get hit by a water canon during a protest near the prime minister's residence, Baluwatar to protest against the government s inefficiency in handling the coronavirus pandemic crisis in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The group demanded the use of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test to identify COVID-19 patients instead of the Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT).

Kathmandu , June 9

Around 150 people took to the streets protesting government’s ineffective handling of  the covid-19  pandemic in Baluwatar ,Kathmandu,today.

People gathered in front of the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar ,demanding to quarantine conditions and make wider use of Polymerase Chain Reaction tests.

Demonstrators hold placards during a protest near the prime minister’s residence, Baluwatar to protest against the government s inefficiency in handling the coronavirus pandemic crisis in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The group demanded the use of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test to identify COVID-19 patients instead of the Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT).

 The protest attempted to maintain physical distance with most attendees wearing masks and holding playcards.

Soon after, police personnel resorted to use of water canons and batons against the peaceful demonstration to disperse the crowd and police also detained many from demonstration site.
