Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City has initiated the procurement process for materials required for street lighting management ahead of the upcoming Dashain, Deepawali, and Chhath festivals. The Sub-Metropolitan City has invited tenders for the purchase of LED bulbs, wires, and holders.
According to the notice first published on Ashoj 2, 2083 BS, a bid security of NPR 120,000 and a tender document fee of NPR 3,000 have been set for the procurement process. The deadline for purchasing tender documents is Ashoj 22, while the final deadline for submitting bids is 12:00 noon on Ashoj 23.
As the festive season approaches, the movement of residents, devotees, and visitors in Janakpurdham is expected to increase. In response, the Sub-Metropolitan City has moved forward with the procurement of street lighting materials under the coordination of Chief Administrative Officer Gyanhari Ghimire.
Amid widespread complaints about delays in material procurement and development projects at the local government level, inviting tenders before the start of the festive season is considered an important initial step in the city’s preparations.
However, inviting tenders is only one stage of the procurement process. Subsequent steps include bid evaluation, contract signing, procurement and supply of materials, and installation at the required locations. Therefore, whether the street lighting initiative will deliver the expected results before the festivals will depend on the pace and effectiveness of the subsequent procedures and their implementation.
There is a need to ensure effective street lighting management in busy areas such as the vicinity of Janaki Temple, Ramanand Chowk, Bhanu Chowk, Kadam Chowk, and Hospital Road. Since religious sites and major roads remain busy until late at night during Deepawali and Chhath, attention must also be given to the regular operation and necessary maintenance of streetlights.
As devotees and visitors from other districts are expected to visit Janakpurdham during Dashain, Deepawali, and Chhath, preparations for sanitation, traffic management, and public safety should also be prioritized alongside street lighting. Adequate lighting is particularly important to facilitate nighttime movement around religious sites and busy roads.
The next crucial step will be how quickly the Sub-Metropolitan City completes the tender process and proceeds with the procurement, supply, and installation of the necessary materials. If the materials are made available on time and streetlights are installed at the required locations, residents, devotees, and visitors will be able to benefit directly from improved lighting during the upcoming festive season.
