The Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, mobilized for rescue, relief and rehabilitation following the flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on Bhadra 10, currently has a balance of Rs 15.53 billion (Rs 15,532,442,926).
Of the total amount, Rs 11.63 billion (Rs 11,638,098,291) is deposited in the accounts of nine commercial banks. In addition, the fund has US$25.47 million (US$25,471,546) deposited in accounts maintained at two commercial banks.
To support immediate rescue and relief operations in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi River flood, Rs 1 billion has already been released from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
The substantial balance in the fund comes at a time when significant financial resources are required for the rescue of affected citizens, distribution of relief materials and other necessary disaster-response measures. The effective and transparent mobilization of the available resources remains important for addressing the needs of people affected by the disaster.
The government has been using the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund as a mechanism for mobilizing resources and providing immediate assistance during disasters. Following the release of Rs 1 billion for the latest flood response, the fund is expected to support further rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.
