Janakpur, Magh 15. The Madhesh Province Government has announced a province-wide public holiday on Sunday, Magh 18, on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti (Magh Purnima).
According to a press release issued on Thursday by Radheshankar Prasad Pal, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Communication and Law, the holiday has been declared in line with the Provincial Cabinet decision dated 2082/08/16, with the public holiday scheduled for 2082/10/18 (Magh 18).
The statement notes that the decision was taken to honor the Dalit and marginalized communities of Madhesh Province, who, along with similar communities across the country, observe Ravidas Jayanti with deep devotion and reverence. The public holiday is intended as a mark of respect for their cultural and religious sentiments.
The move has also been welcomed by Nepali communities living abroad. Leaders from the Madheshi and Dalit communities residing in Dubai stated that the decision reflects a positive message of social inclusion, dignity, and recognition. They also informed that preparations are underway to celebrate Ravidas Jayanti in Dubai through various community organizations.
The provincial government believes that this decision will further strengthen religious and cultural harmony, as well as mutual respect among diverse communities.
