Aashish kumar,Janakpurdham: Healthcare workers employed in health institutions under Madhesh Province staged a protest today in front of the Provincial Assembly building in Janakpur demanding promotion and career advancement.
The protesters carried banners and placards to express their demands. The demonstration was organized by the Senior AHW (Assistant Health Worker) and Senior ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) Employees’ Struggle Committee of Madhesh Province.

Protest Against the Halted Promotion Process
According to Rupesh Sah, the treasurer of the Struggle Committee, the Madhesh government has halted the promotion process for around 1,800 healthcare workers across eight districts of the province. As a result, the protesters are demanding regular promotion opportunities.
He stated that despite repeatedly raising the issue, the provincial government has not responded. Therefore, the protesters marched from the Chief Minister’s Office and District Administration Office in Dhanusha to Murli Chowk, eventually gathering in front of the Provincial Assembly building for a sit-in protest.

Memorandum Submitted to Speaker
During the protest, the demonstrators also submitted a three-point memorandum to Provincial Assembly Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal. The key demands include:
- Implementing a two-level promotion system as per the Nepal Health Service Act, 2053 (1996).
- Ensuring 100% open competition for recruitment, as the entry-level position in the health service starts at the fourth level.
Meanwhile, due to the ongoing Provincial Assembly session, security in and around the assembly building was tightened.
