Janakpur, May 8 – The long-disputed ‘Yadav Chowk’ located in Bhathihan, Ward No. 9 of Sabaila Municipality, Dhanusha district, will now be officially known as ‘Shreeram Chowk’. This decision was reached following a multi-party and community-level consensus meeting.
The dispute began in Chaitra (March-April) when some individuals installed a signboard labeling the area as ‘Yadav Chowk’, triggering unrest among locals. The situation escalated, resulting in clashes that left several people injured. One young man was seriously wounded by police gunfire and is still undergoing treatment.
Mayor’s Commitment Leads to Agreement
In response to the incident, Mayor Kariram Yadav had pledged to resolve the issue and rename the square within two months. Acting on that promise, a consensus meeting was held under Ward Chairperson Manish Ray Amat, where the new name ‘Shreeram Chowk’ was unanimously approved.
New Directional Signboard to Be Installed
According to the decision, a new signboard labeled ‘Shreeram Chowk’ will be publicly unveiled at the site. The board will also include directions to Ramghat, Kolluwa Mod, and Satoshwardham to guide visitors. The inauguration will be carried out in the presence of local representatives and security personnel.
Local leaders stated that the new name reflects religious harmony and cultural unity, and is aimed at restoring peace and solidarity within the community.
