Janakpurdham, February 4 – In a significant move to modernize urban management and resolve chronic traffic congestion, the Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City, in collaboration with the District Traffic Police Office, Dhanusha, has officially implemented a one-way traffic system on the high-traffic route from Ramananda Chowk to Janak Chowk.
According to the new regulations, vehicles are now permitted to travel only in the direction from Ramananda Chowk toward Janak Chowk. Traffic originating from the opposite direction is being redirected through designated alternative routes. Authorities believe this strategic shift will reduce the current vehicle density on this stretch by nearly half, creating a safer and more breathable environment for pedestrians. To ensure the success of this initiative, the city administration has announced strict enforcement of “No Parking” zones, warning that any violations of the new traffic rules will result in immediate legal action.

The Ramananda Chowk–Janak Chowk section has long been plagued by unregulated traffic, primarily due to the overwhelming number of four-wheelers and e-rickshaws. This chaos often forced pedestrians into risky situations and caused significant delays for those visiting the historic Janaki Temple. Furthermore, the congestion frequently obstructed ambulances and patients heading to the Provincial Hospital for urgent medical care.
The decision was finalized under the special direction of Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah, who has identified urban traffic reform as a top priority for the local government. Mayor Sah emphasized that while the city is committed to solving these daily challenges, long-term success depends heavily on the cooperation of the public. Supporting this sentiment, Police Inspector Surya Bahadur Shahi, Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Dhanusha, noted that the one-way system is a vital tool for reducing accidents and ensuring that emergency services can move without hindrance. He specifically called upon e-rickshaw drivers to adhere to the new discipline to ensure a smoother transition.
Local stakeholders have largely welcomed the move. Saroj Kumar Mishra, a prominent local leader, stated that the decision addresses a long-standing grievance of the residents who were frustrated by the lack of order. Similarly, local business owners expressed that such regulations are essential for transforming Janakpurdham into a modern, tourist-friendly city.
Beyond traffic flow, the administration has pledged to prioritize footpath management by removing illegal encroachments and ensuring safe walking spaces. If this pilot phase proves successful, the Sub-metropolitan city plans to replicate similar traffic management models in other congested hubs across the city.
