Mustang, Nov 4 : President Bidya Devi Bhandari asserted that Muktinath Temple in Mustang district was a heritage of faith for both Hindus and Buddhists all over the world. Unveiling the statue of Lord Gautam Buddha constructed at Muktinath Temple premises in Mustang district today, President Bhandari said that the Muktinath Area was a special heritage geographically, socially, religiously and culturally.

Bhandari, on the occasion, laid the foundation stone for the construction of statue of Lord Bishnu and acknowledged the act as a “historic opportunity” for herself. “I am happy to participate in unveiling of the statue and foundation stone laying and believe that this would contribute in further increasing the religious and touristic importance of Muktinath Area, the centre of faith among the Hindus and Buddhists.”

According to her, the Vedic scriptures had highly mentioned about the importance of Muktinath Area and Muktinath Temple bearing centuries-old history and multicultural dynamics with huge reverence. “The religious and cultural heritages in Mustang district are our precious treasures. We should preserve, conserve and promote them, and the economic benefits reaped from them should be utilized for the greater good of the local people here,” the Head of the State stated.

She underscored coordinated initiatives among the federal, provincial and local levels for the development of infrastructures of religious and touristic areas in Mustang district. Furthermore, she viewed that the Korala border checkpoint in Mustang, which will facilitate establishing trade ties with neighbouring China, had given another identity to Mustang.

“We must pay attention to development of physical infrastructures to operate the Korala checkpoint which is to help in expansion of trade between the two countries via roadways,” President Bhandari said. Earlier, President Bhandari performed special worship at the Muktinath Temple today morning following a circumambulation of the 108 water spouts in the Temple premises, informed Chief District Officer in Mustang district, Netra Prasad Sharma. The President also inaugurated the ‘Lho Mustang Himalaya Resort’ constructed at Ranipauwa of Muktinath today itself. (RSS)
