Janakpurdham: The Madhesh Province government has urged the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to create a conducive environment for the smooth and simple operation of the scrap business while expressing respect, dignity, and goodwill towards scrap dealers’ livelihoods.
This appeal was made through a press release by Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh’s press advisor, Anil Kumar Karn, after the Scrap Business Society Nepal submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on Wednesday.
The press release expressed concern over the Metropolitan City’s stance of rendering scrap dealers and workers dependent on this business unemployed, despite their registration and tax compliance with the concerned government bodies as per the law and procedures. Serious attention has been drawn to this issue through the release.
It stated that while standards could be set and strictly followed to make the business safe, risk-free, and dignified, attempts to displace scrap dealers who collect, export, and process reusable waste by going door-to-door would not be appropriate.
